Outstanding Young Lawyer Award 2015
At Law Day, 2015, one of our prosecutors, John H.
Hayne, was presented with the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award by the Fayette
County Bar Association.
John received a B.A. from
Transylvania and an M.S. from UK in accounting and a law degree from the
University of Kentucky. He joined the staff of the Fayette County Attorney in
August, 2008 in general prosecution. He is an exceptionally hard-working
attorney, who has earned the respect of his colleagues and members of the
defense bar for his trial skills, leadership and selfless dedication to criminal
prosecution in Fayette County. His integrity is beyond reproach.
The responsibilities of an Assistant County Attorney throughout Kentucky is to
prosecute misdemeanor criminal offenses in the district courts. An exception,
however, was made by Commonwealth's Attorney Gordon Shaw to permit John to have
special prosecution status to prosecute felony cases in the Circuit Courts of
Bourbon, Scott and Woodford counties as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney. He
has tried several cases involving rape, arson, burglary and murder.
John served for two years as a Special Assistant United States Attorney during
which he prosecuted federal narcotics and firearms crimes, all while keeping up
with his duties as an Assistant County Attorney.
has participated in the mentoring program at Booker T. Washington Academy, and
currently participates in the Transylvania University Alumni mentoring program
of "100 Doors to Success." In addition to assisting with community projects, he
serves on the Board of the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center.
