Victim’s Advocates

Kathleen Theriault
Victim Advocate
Kathleen Theriault has been with the Fayette County Attorney’s Office as of May 2023. She joins our office from Alaska, where she worked as a community-based victim advocate with the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living for 2.5 years. While working with the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living Kathleen worked with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and strangulation.

Jennifer Kelder
Victim Advocate
JENNIFER KELDER – Victim Advocate. Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Relations from Eastern Kentucky University in 1998. After working for three years at the University of Kentucky Center on Drug and Alcohol Research, she joined our office in 2003.

Susan Lemay
Victim Advocate
SUSAN LeMAY – Victim Advocate. Susan is from Lexington, Kentucky. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor in Social Work Degree and from the University of Louisville with a Master of Science in Social Work. She has worked in victim services for 20 years, including the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass and ElderServe (Louisville). Susan returned to work at the Fayette County Attorney’s Office in August, 2017, having previously worked there from 2007-2011.

Paola Schwartz
Juvenile Victim Advocate
Paola Schwartz was born and raised in Mexico City and has been a resident of the state of Kentucky since the summer of 2002. She graduated from UVM, Tlalpan Campus, a private university in Mexico City, with a bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communications. She also graduated from SkyCTC in Bowling Green, Kentucky with an associate’s degree in culinary arts and later earned her a certificate as a Culinary Nutrition Expert with The Academy of Culinary Nutrition in Toronto, Canada. She worked as a personal chef and in the culinary industry for about 7 years before beginning her work in the legal field. Paola worked for 4 years as a legal assistant for an immigration law office at Maxwell Street Legal Clinic, which is a part of the Kentucky Equal Justice Center. She has worked for the Fayette County Attorney’s Office as a Paralegal in the Juvenile Division since January 2024.

Amy Smith
Victim Advocate
Amy Smith is from Lexington, Kentucky. She graduated from the University of the Cumberlands with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Human Services. Amy was a teacher for five years before joining the Fayette County Attorney’s Office in 2023.
